A morning that stays
Teach, or just say hello
Spend a morning at the village primary school — teach the children something you're good at, or simply sit and talk with them. You walk out lighter, quietly reminded of how much you've been given — and sometimes, with a little buddy for life.
Back to ExperiencesJust down the lane is the village primary school — a couple of rooms, a blackboard, and a handful of children you could count on your fingers, who light up at a new face. If there's something you're good at — a language, a craft, a sport, a song, the way the wider world works — come share it for a morning. And if you'd rather not 'teach' at all, just sit with them, listen, and play. They'll teach you plenty.
Most guests leave that classroom a little quieter than they walked in — struck by how much they've been handed in life, and how little these bright, open kids need to be this happy. It tends to stay with you long after you've gone home. Some keep in touch for years; a few find themselves a small buddy for life.

How it works
- 1
Tell us a day or two ahead, so we can have a quiet word with the school.
- 2
Bring whatever you'd like to share — a skill, a story, a song, or simply yourself.
- 3
Spend the morning teaching, or just being with the children. Stay in touch if it sticks.
A word of thanks
Where it all began — for me
This is the very school where everything started for me — this website, and just about everything I've ever built since. We call our teachers masaab in the local slang, and I owe more than I can say to mine.
The masaabs who taught me
Carrying it on today
- Kiran di — my cousin sister — she teaches here now
- Bimla di — looks after the children's mid-day meal
“I went in to teach one English class and ended up staying till noon. I still get letters from two of the kids — I never expected a single morning to follow me all the way home.”
Like the sound of this? It comes with a stay — here's how that works.
