Kunja Village Homestay

The year's celebrations

Festivals of Kunja

The Kumaoni year, told through its festivals.

Back to home

A land of festivity

The Kumaoni year is kept by its festivals

Up here the calendar is marked less by dates than by festivals — and there is one for nearly every turn of the season. Children scatter flowers for Phool Dei in spring, the monsoon opens with the green of Harela, autumn fills with the lamps of Diwali, and deep winter calls the crows down for Ghughutiya.

None of it is staged for visitors. These are the days the village actually lives by — sung, cooked, and walked door to door. Time your stay to one and you won't watch from the side; you'll be folded right in.
