How to know it
The female is rich rufous above with a glossy blue-black head, a grey throat and breast and white underparts — elegant, and without the male's long tail-streamers.
What it eats
Insects, hawked on the wing from a perch among the foliage.
Where & when to spot it
In the same shaded, leafy forest as the male, working the understorey for insects; mostly in the warmer foothills.
Nesting & mating
Shares the building of a small, neat fibre-and-cobweb cup on a low fork, and the raising of three or four young.
