Birdwatching at Kunja

Kunja is a small village near Jageshwar Dham in the Almora district of Kumaon, and the easiest birdwatching of all happens right in the courtyard. House sparrows and mynas work the eaves, bulbuls and treepies the hedges, while minivets and barbets call from the oaks on the slope above — you barely have to leave the terrace.

Spring and the post-monsoon weeks are the busiest, and the hour after first light is when the village is loudest with birds. Every photograph here was made within a short walk of Kunja Village Homestay.
