How to know it
A pale sandy-grey dove with a slim black half-collar on the hind-neck and a square white-cornered tail. Tame and familiar around habitation.
What it eats
Seeds and grain picked from the ground — a regular at spilt grain and field edges.
Where & when to spot it
On the ground in the open, on wires and rooftops, and around the fields, with a soft three-note coo.
Nesting & mating
A flimsy stick platform in a tree or on a building; breeds through much of the year, two white eggs at a time.
